Grangeville boys rock Kamiah

— A 26-point second quarter turned the second game between the Grangeville boys and Kamiah into a blowout, with the GHS bigs overpowering the Kubs inside and the Grangeville guards eventually fouling out Ben Dunning, Luke Snyder and Kaleb Oatman during an 85-59 Bulldogs win last Thursday night, Jan. 4.

Snyder (26 points) and Oatman (13) led Kamiah scorers, while Trey Dreadfulwater (17), Noah Kaschmitter (17), Jacob Vanderwall (13) and Blake Darr (10) all notched double-digits for Grangeville.

Prairie boys win two of three so far this month

COTTONWOOD — With the district tournament looming just four weeks away, a 72-24 win over Clearwater Valley Monday night, Jan. 8, and a 49-44 win over Genesee earlier this month have the Prairie boys in contention for the Whitepine League’s second seed.

Prairie has just one league loss so far — to Lapwai — as does Potlatch, which smoked CV 59-27 on Jan. 6. The Pirates are slated to host the Loggers this Friday night, Jan. 12, and to visit Kamiah on Jan. 18.

The Prairie girls, meanwhile, had extended their unbeaten run to 12 games, with a 71-21 win over Genesee last Friday night, Jan. 5, with a rematch against Moscow played after the print deadline on Jan. 9.

The PHS girls are set to host Clearwater Valley this Thursday night, Jan. 11, to visit Potlatch on Saturday, and to host Kamiah on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Three twinbills set for Salmon River this week

The Salmon River boys and girls are slated to visit Cascade Jan. 11, and to host Nezperce Jan. 12 and Council Jan. 16.

Both squads were set to host Garden Valley after print time on Jan. 9 and both traveled to Garden Valley last Saturday, Jan. 6.

The boys reportedly lost 77-40 at Garden Valley and lost 66-49 at New Plymouth Jan. 3.

Kubs rebound, beat Troy

Having stumbled at Grangeville after the holiday break, the Kamiah boys rallied from five points behind Troy at halftime to beat the Whitepine League rival Trojans 44-37 last Saturday, Jan. 6.

Luke Snyder scored 13 and Kaleb Oatman scored 12 in their winning effort.

The Kamiah girls beat Troy 29-24 on Jan. 5.

Next, the Kamiah boys (5-4, 3-2 WPL) are slated to host Kendrick Jan. 13 and visit Orofino Jan. 16. The Kubs played Lapwai after the Jan. 9 print deadline. The Kamiah girls (7-7, 6-3 WPL) played at Grangeville after the Jan. 9 print deadline and are set to play Lapwai Jan. 11 and Prairie Jan. 16.

CV to visit Orofino, PHS

The Clearwater Valley boys are averaging 37 points per game in three losses so far in 2018, and are set to play at Orofino Jan. 11 and at Genesee Jan. 13. The girls are scheduled to visit Prairie and Genesee.
