Christmas lights theft costs community

Letter to the Editor

The Grangeville Merchants Committee is so happy to put up and take down the downtown light pole Christmas decor with Avista, but when we took them down on Thursday, Jan. 11, there are a lot of light bulbs missing, taken out of the sockets. That means we now have to buy a lot more to put them back up next year.

When this type of vandalism happens, it doesn’t seem worth putting them back up. It’s more work than what most folks think. And we need folks to help us as well; we all work, too, and still get it done. If you see anyone vandalizing like this, please report them.

Oktoberfest is our next event and money is needed for that, as well. The yearly merchants’ fee is now due for the 2018 season, of $30 per business. Individuals can join, as well. Please send your dues to the Grangeville Merchants Association, PO Box 253, Grangeville, ID  83530; or call Nancy Asker, treasurer, at 208-983-0583.

Thank you so much, and please help us to continue with these two events.
