The Kamiah School District, led by Kamiah High School Athletic Director Leah York, and Kamiah High School and Junior High Track Coach(s) Jana Privette and Jimmy Engledow, have begun a fundraising effort to resurface the track at the Bob Squires Athletic Complex.
"After many years of providing a safe and enjoyable venue for area athletes and their families, as well as giving the citizens of Kamiah an all season option to health and fitness, the need to resurface the track has come," Kamiah schools superintendent Steve Higgins said in a press release. "During the last 36 years, Kamiah has been known for hosting quality track meets that have placed an emphasis on sportsmanship and building long lasting relations between competing athletes and the communities they represent. These athletic contests have become a center piece for the community of Kamiah by providing a significant positive impact to the local economy and as a way to demonstrate the pride of the people and beauty of the area."
To continue with this tradition, Kamiah High School is seeking donations to resurface the track and field area of the Bob Squires Sports Complex. The overall goal for the resurface project is $120,000 with another $15,000 coming from local volunteers for removal of the deteriorated running surface and minor subsurface repair.
"Through your support of the resurfacing project, you or your business, will receive free publicity and positive public relations, both in the local community and with the many visitors that attend the local and regional track meets," the release noted. "Medal Donors will be recognized with their names engraved on a prominently displayed plaque at the sports complex. Specifically, Gold and Diamond Donors will also have a 4x8 recognition on either Hill Street or the east side bleachers. By partnering with Kamiah High School, you will not only be helping to carry on the tradition of excellence found in the Kamiah High School track and field program -- you will be investing in the long term health of the community members that benefit from the sports complex."
