— Here it is almost the end of January already – we just started the New Year, so the months are going to start going by faster. It is staying daylight a little longer, but remember, winter is still here!

No meetings again this week, but we do have some reminders that I need to let everyone know about as by the time this comes out, the events will be fast approaching.

The chamber has put their elections on hold until after the fireman’s ball, but in the meantime they are needing your help as a community. They are looking to fill vice-president, secretary and treasurer positions. So, if you would like to help make a difference in this town, think about taking on one of these positions. They aren’t bad offices to hold and they only meet once a month. The chamber dues are up and if you would like to keep your dues, they are $50/year for businesses and $25/year for individuals. There are some very good perks to being a member, so check them out. Call Cody Farmer at 208-839-2887. If they can’t get enough to continue with this organization, once it’s gone, there is no getting it back.

WBARD will be holding their monthly breakfast this Sunday, Jan. 28, starting at 8 a.m. They will be serving sausage, potatoes, eggs and toast, at no charge, but donations are always welcomed.

Cribbage winners were Bones winning 1st and MaryAnn taking 2nd.

Pinochle winner was Rick.

Gun Club’s 2nd week of shooting saw 20 shooters with Joaquin Lowe with 25. Bill McMahon, Jay Frazer, Jim McMahon, Clay Robinson, and Toni Robinson all with 24, and in the youth division Kaycen Sickels with a 23.

Have you been by Red’s lately? They have new things happening…come in and see the menus. They have Taco Tuesdays starting at 4 p.m. Breakfast starts with coffee on at 7 a.m., Fridays through Sundays. We now have homemade desserts, hand-pressed burgers, potato buns, real chicken tenders, and more! Hours are: closed Mondays; open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Tuesdays thru Thursdays, and on the weekends, Fridays thru Sundays they are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can also reach them by calling 208-839-9977 or find them on Facebook.

Birthdays this next week are Melvin Cash, Kurt Urbahn, Shawn Smith (22nd), Gina Heath, Randy Zumwalt (23rd), Jenny Hanson, Roy Allen Farmer, Shayla Kaschmitter, Heather Kunkel, Bryson Robinett (24th), Dave Hueth (25th), Jim Goulette (26th), and Eric Martin (27th).

Anniversary wishes go out to Paul & Katheryn Van Acker (24th).

TidBits: Here’s some remember when….from 1973:

When hippie meant big in the hips.

A trip involved travel in cars, planes & ships.

When pot was a vessel for cooking things in.

Hooked was what grandmother’s rug may have been.

When fix was a verb that meant mend or repair.

When neat meant well-organized, tidy & clean.

Grass was a ground cover, normally green.

Bread came from the bakery and not from the mint.

When roll meant a bun & rock was a stone.

Hang-up was something you did with the phone.

Methinks that our language is going to pot.

Have a good week everyone!!
