Planned sheep capture operation cancelled following helicopter crash

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife had planned to capture 100 bighorn sheep in three Hells Canyon herds Feb. 1-9 as part of the ongoing Hells Canyon Initiative to restore bighorn sheep populations. But the operation was cancelled Monday “due to a recent helicopter accident in Washington state,” IDFG conservation educator Jen Bruns said in a press release.

The crash took place north about 25 miles north of Pomeroy last Saturday, Jan. 27.
