Last week, Idaho County Republicans (otherwise known as your Idaho County Republican Central Committee) – the “pro-life” party - issued a formal challenge to all county Republican organizations throughout the State of Idaho: Join us in actively supporting and campaigning for the passage of the Life at Conception Act bills currently pending in the U.S. Congress.

Of all bills pending in Congress, why are we focusing on the Life at Conception Act?

Because in 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade forced us to legally accept abortion-on-demand. Also known as convenience abortions.

Since then, more than 61 million unborn, innocent, helpless babies have been aborted in America – and some 4,000 babies continue to be aborted every day.

With abortion on demand being “legal”, many pro-life Americans have had to resign themselves to trying to pass laws which, at best, merely regulate abortion.

But now, the days of abortion on demand and ignoring the sanctity of an unborn person’s life in America are very nearly at an end.

Working from what the Supreme Court itself disclosed in Roe v Wade, our elected, pro-life federal representatives can pass a Life at Conception Act and put an end to abortion-on-demand!

A simple majority vote in both houses of Congress is all that is needed to pass a Life at Conception Act (as opposed to the two-thirds majority required for a Constitutional amendment).

You see, during arguments in Roe, the Supreme Court made a key admission:

“If...personhood {for the unborn} is established, the appellant’s case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed specifically by the Fourteenth Amendment...” (Roe v. Wade [410 US 113 at 156-7])

That’s exactly what a Life at Conception Act would do. By declaring that unborn children are persons legally entitled to the constitutional protection of their lives, we will rescue millions of unborn children from dying by abortion-on-demand.

A Life at Conception Act changes the focus of the abortion debate. It takes the Supreme Court out of the equation and places responsibility squarely on the shoulders of our elected representatives who, unlike life term judges, are responsive to grass-roots pressure.

Life at Conception Act bills have been introduced in both the House of Representatives (H.R. 681) and the U.S. Senate (S. 231).

Our congressman, Raul Labrador, and U.S. senators, Mike Crapo and James E. Risch, have all signed on as cosponsors of these bills in their respective chambers.

So, we Idaho County Republicans are calling on all county Republican organizations throughout the state – in fact, we call on all Idahoans everywhere - to call the House of Representatives and Senate at (202) 224-3121 and insist their congressmen and senators continue supporting and do everything they can to force a vote on H.R. 681 and S. 231, respectively.

People can also go to the National Pro-Life Alliance website at http://nationalprolifealliance.com/laca2016-S.aspx and sign a petition which will be forwarded to legislators, thereby further demonstrating support for this long overdue legislation.

Your Idaho County Republican Central Committee members sincerely hope you will join us in this righteous effort. Thank you.
