Youth Volleyball Day coming up July 25

GHS Soccer sign-ups meeting is July 26

GRANGEVILLE — A player/parent meeting will be held at the GHS Library on Thursday, July 26, for all high school athletes interested in playing soccer for GHS this fall. The girls meeting will be from 5:30-6 p.m. and the boys meeting will be from 6-6:30 p.m. The first practice for both squads will be Aug. 6. The first games for both teams will be against McCall on Aug. 18.

Kooskia Days softball game scheduled

KOOSKIA — The Diehard Sports Association is sponsoring an old-fashioned coed softball game at 6 p.m. July 27 in Kooskia City Park.

All interested guys and gals ages 16-plus are invited to play in the game. Player registration is at 5:30 p.m.

JAKES Day set Aug. 4

GRANGEVILLE — The annual National Wild Turkey Federation Jakes Day for children ages 6-14 will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Camas Prairie Bowmen range. Preregistration is required. Cost, $10, includes lunch and T-shirt. Activities include shooting and outdoors demonstrations.

Football Camp coming up Aug. 6-7 at GHS

GRANGEVILLE — GHS football coaches are once again putting on a summer camp for athletes entering grades 4-8, with two days of activity scheduled 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6-7 at the GHS football field.

Cost is $35. Register before Aug. 3 to guarantee T-shirt. The camp is non-contact and features fundamentals development in all three phases of the game: offense, defense and special teams. Lunch is included.

Sprague wrestling camp tour coming to Kamiah this summer

Famed wrestling coach Marc Sprague has scheduled wrestling camps July 30-Aug. 2 and Aug. 6-9.

The camps, titled “Be A Beast On Top” and “Let’s Get Vertical,” will run 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day and cost $249 for one or $349 for both. Detailed information and registration forms are online at cobrawrestlingsystems.com.

Raspberry Festival fun run scheduled Aug. 5

A 10K Fun Run and 5K Run/Walk kicks off the day of family fun at the Raspberry Festival. Beginning at 8 a.m. in front of the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, the course follows an out-and-back route on a quiet, paved country road. The event will be chip-timed by Cyrus B. Hall, Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach of Lewis-Clark State College.

The Raspberry Festival Fun Run & Walk is part of an annual fund-raiser to benefit the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho.

CVHS sports meetings coming up July 30

KOOSKIA – Clearwater Valley High School will be having fall high school sports preseason meetings at 6 p.m. July 30 in the CVHS library. Football practice begins Aug. 6 and volleyball starts Aug. 10. Contact activities director Kolby Krieger, 208-935-5693, for details.

Triple Bar O-Mok-See set for Sunday

GRANGEVILLE — Grangeville Triple Bar Drill Team will be holding its O-Mok-See Sunday, July 29. Sign-ups begin at 8 a.m. and games begin at 9 a.m. There are six age groups and eight games. There is a prize for all-around points for each age group. Cost is $5 per event or $30 for the whole day. Concessions will be available. Syringa offers sports physicals Aug. 1-2

Syringa Hospital & Clinics will be offering free physical examinations for all students for the purpose of participating in sports activities. The first will be 1-4 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Syringa Kooskia Clinic and the second will be 4-6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Syringa Primary Care Clinic in Grangeville. The physicals are free; voluntary donation of $25 is suggested. One hundred percent of all donations received will go directly back to that student’s school. Forms can be downloaded at syringahospital.org. No appointment is necessary.

Football officials association recruiting refs for fall season

LEWISTON — Recruitment is under way for football officials for high school and junior high school football in Idaho’s District 2. The first meeting, which is an introductory meeting for coaches and officials, touches on rules changes from last season and points of emphasis for this season. It will be held Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Lewiston High School Auditorium.

Additional meetings for officials will take place throughout August, usually on Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings. The full schedule of meetings will be provided to officials in early August.

Games are played late August to mid-November.

Officials in District 2 work junior high up to varsity level games at schools stretching from Grangeville to Potlatch. Games take place nearly every night of the week with most varsity games reserved for Friday nights. Officials can expect to work 2-3 games per week, depending upon other commitments.

To register online, visit the Idaho High School Activities Association website at www.idhsaa.org, click on the Officials tab and follow the instructions. Registration is open from July 10 through Aug. 13 and is $40 if registration is completed by Aug. 13. After Aug. 14, cost is $65.
