Personal use firewood access roads to open

The Salmon River and Red River Ranger Districts of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will open several roads for access to personal use firewood starting June 15.

Forest Service roads (FSRs) opening on June 15 include: FSR 1862, aka Honker Road, and all spurs off the No. 1862 road system; FSR 9452, aka Bully Creek Road; and all roads on Wheeler Mountain, including FSR 1803 and all forks/spurs off of it. These roads will remain open until Aug. 15.

A personal use firewood permit is required and all conditions of the permit apply.

The minimum cost for a personal use firewood permit is $20 for four cords, and the maximum is $60 for 12 cords. Permits and maps are available at forest offices, as well as from community vendors. A list of permit vendors can be found at
