With about a week remaining in the period for South Fork Clearwater River gold miners to apply for suction dredging permits for this summer season, Idaho Department of Water Resources has received 13 dredge applications for parts of the main riverbed as well as four applications to dredge in tributaries. Two of the tributary applications are for Red River, one is for Mare Creek (a Newsome Creek tributary) and one is for Leggett Creek.

The department reported permit counts to the Idaho Water Resources board during a mid-month meeting in May.

June 8 is the last day for applicants to send in the permit paperwork before the season opens July 15. Mining site inspections by IDWR and other agencies, which the permit requires, can be completed as early as June 27-28.
