Public invited to Thursday Flag Day ceremony at Heritage Square

GRANGEVILLE – The public is invited to a Flag Day ceremony this Thursday, June 14, starting at 6 p.m. at Heritage Square, organized by the Grangeville Elks Lodge. The approximate half-hour event will feature a dedication ceremony for the U.S. flag, flag history, and also a retirement by fire of damaged flags for honorable disposal. The event will also to be honor those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Among those invited to attend will be Scout and Cub Scout troops 555, area veterans, public officials and agencies. In case of rain, the event will be held in the square’s covered area.

June 16, yard sale to benefit Cristo Vive camp programs

GRANGEVILLE – A yard sale to benefit this year’s Cristo Vive camp program will be held Saturday, June 16, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Grangeville Church of the Nazarene, 515 West North 2nd Street. All proceeds will help pay for special needs children to attend Cristo Vive camp at ALACCA in Harpster. This year’s camp will be July 31 to Aug. 4. There is a charge for camp, but scholarships are available.

Suicide prevention panel discussion set for June 21

KAMIAH — An open discussion with a panel of professionals about suicide prevention is set for the American Legion Hall in Kamiah (corner of 7th and Main streets). This will be held Thursday, June 21. A baked potato bar dinner will be held at 5 p.m. with a video and discussion set for 6 p.m.

The panel will include medical professionals, school personnel, law enforcement and victim advocates. The event is sponsored by the YWCA. For questions call Kamiah YWCA at 208-935-0044; Grangeville YWCA at 208-983-0888; or Orofino YWCA at 208-476-0155.

UYLC to be host to a variety of upcoming youth activities

Upriver Youth Leadership Council (UYLC) is providing a variety of opportunities and activities for youth ages 10 to 18.

Upcoming events include the following:

•Friday, June 15, there will be a bus ready to pick up 25 participants to go to the Asotin Aquatic Center in Clarkston, Wash. The bus will be loading at 9:30 a.m, at the Kamiah High School football field, and will be departing at 10 a.m. sharp. Returning time will be 7:30-8 p.m. Cost is $5.

•An afternoon of rock painting for youth in grades 4-12 is set for Monday, June 18, 1-3 p.m. This free, youth event will be held at the UYLC office, 413 Main Street, Kamiah. Needed materials will be provided.

•A free face painting afternoon for grades K-4 is set for Wednesday, June 20, 2-4 p.m., at the UYLC office. Face painting will be done by Linda Hadley. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or responsible older sibling.

•UYLC, in partnership with Three Rivers Rafting, is sponsoring a youth whitewater rafting trip Saturday, June 23. This one-day trip covers about 22 miles and 40 class III-IV+ rapids. Included with the trip price is a full lunch on the banks of the river and a wet suit, booties, helmet, etc. to wear in the boat. You will be expected to paddle. Departure time is 7:30 a.m. at the KHS football field. Return to Kamiah is around 4 to 4:30 p.m. Youth wanting to sign up need to weigh at least 100 pounds. This trip is limited to 25 youth. Spots will only be reserved upon receipt of payment and a completed waiver. Waiver and suggested gear list can be found at the UYLC office.

•A free Quiplash afternoon is set for Monday, June 25, 1-3 p.m., for grades 4-12. This event will be held at the UYLC office and requires cell phones or tablets which have access to the Internet.

•A water balloon volleyball day is set for Wednesday, June 27, 1-3 p.m., at Kamiah park, for youth grades 4-12. Each participant will need a towel.

VBS set for Grangeville Church of the Nazarene

GRANGEVILLE – Mark your calendars for June 18-21 when Grangeville Church of the Nazarene will have its annual vacation Bible school. This year’s theme is “Splash Canyon.”

Children 4 years old through fifth grade are invited. The church is located at 515 W. N. 2nd Street. Call 208-983-0552.

Clearwater Meal Center luncheon set for June 20

CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Meal Center’s next luncheon is set for Wednesday, June 20 at noon. A pasta dish, green salad, French bread and dessert will be served. Meals are served the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Clearwater Baptist Church. No charge for the luncheon, $5 donation appreciated when possible. All are welcome. Call 208-926-7776.

5-day club in Stites set for June 18-22

STITES – A 5-day club is set for Stites Baptist Church Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22, 1 to 2:30 p.m., for kindergarten through sixth grade students.

This is sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship and the non-denominational activities will include gospel stories, games, songs and snacks.

Kids’ fun set for Pioneer Park

GRANGEVILLE – Pioneer Park in Grangeville will be the place for fun for kids set for Saturday, June 16, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Games, songs, face painting and more will be offered, including the gospel through the Child Evangelism Fellowship. This is for ages 5 to 12. Call 208-983-1790 with questions.

Bingo is in Kamiah this Friday

KAMIAH – American Legion Post No. 75 will host Bingo this Friday, June 15, 7 p.m., at the Kamiah American Legion Hall, located at 618 Main Street.

Enjoy visiting, playing Bingo and concessions while supporting local veterans.
