— Federal funding will cover all but about $107,000 of the more than $1.4 million involved with an upcoming project for sealing cracks on the first 26 miles of the Dixie Road, under the early steps toward an agreement between the Federal Highway Administration and Idaho County which were taken last month.

“We will prioritize the needed repairs and complete as much pavement preservation work as possible with the available funds,” FHWA spokesman Doug Hecox told the Free Press Friday, June 1. “We are in the early stages of this project…we anticipate preliminary engineering (design) will begin this summer, and believe construction will begin in mid-2019. Those dates could change, though, but that is the plan as of right now.”

The Idaho County Commission approved the first $10,000 of the local share on May 22.
