These young men need some respect lessons

Letter to the Editor

In response to letter, “Young men broke vehicle glass…” (May 23 issue):

I’m not so certain these young males ought to be called “men” – they have not earned the honor and/or graced the maturity associated with the designation.

I, too, am the survivor of major vehicle damage – to my only running vehicle upon which I was very dependent to get to job interviews and other necessities (just the basics) for life. All the lights were beaten out, my new tires were slashed, the windshield (a gift from friends) and the rear (defrosting) window were smashed out in February 2017.

My vehicle was older – a 1989 Subaru – that I had purchased very second-hand and was working to refurbish with a minimal income and scanty potential for much more work.

In situations such as these, it’s likely these young males need some lessons about respect. We might check their understanding of how self-respect might effect better behavior toward self, others and the property of same.
