Marilyn Beckett’s response [June 20 issue] to my June 13 letter regarding the proposed Central Idaho Land Exchange raises three questions.
Why do so many Latah County residents, of which Beckett is one, assume they know what’s best for the residents of Idaho County?
If federal lands really are “our” lands, as Beckett claims, then why is the public shut out from so many of them? One is hard pressed to find a Forest Service gate that is not locked these days.
Does Beckett really think that the feds, in allowing forests to rot and burn, can actually manage timberland better than the state of Idaho?
I’ll take my chances with the state.
