The Grangeville High School cheerleaders qualified for state competition — a first for GHS since IHSAA sanction began in 2013. Competing in four events at the district qualifier last month, the GHS cheerleaders took first in all-girl show routine, second in pom and second in sideline – and came within a few points of qualifying in the fourth.

“Orofino beat us by three this week,” coach Renita Lee said. “We beat them the week before, so that was hard to swallow. We’re eligible for the 2A state grand champion, the team title.”

Lee said qualifying in sideline was the biggest surprise.

“We had so many setbacks we weren’t going to enter,” she said. “We ended up five points behind Orofino — and they’ve been at it for many years.”

The team will compete at the Idaho Center, at 7:30 a.m. March 16 in Nampa.
