Hard to swallow but made the switch; urge local trade to try them

Letter to the Editor

Taking no for an answer is hardly ever the outcome we are looking for, but when the question is can we save our bank, it is particularly hard to swallow. I admit that I have a very biased outlook and feeling of personal loss and betrayal, but I have completed the transfer to the Pine Tree Community Credit Union where the service is excellent, and the drive-up window is super handy. I would urge our local trade to give them a try. They do good work.

I came across an old deposit slip from one of the Lewiston banks from many years ago, which says, “Banker’s hours mean something different, community commitment – It’s in our people.” Our people had this attitude too, but unfortunately, the Umpqua executives do not share that view. Too bad. 200 people that I know of asked Umpqua to reconsider their decision, but as near as I can tell, the answer is politely, no. So, I wish you all the best, and thanks for the memories.
