LOWELL / SYRINGA Eighteen inches of new snow on the ground, steelhead fishermen looking for a campground decided to step up and rent a cabin and state highway snowplows working all night on Sunday. That’s life upriver this last week.
I wake up every Monday morning and try to put together some local news before the noon deadline. I look out at the weather, I scrape my satellite dishes, I’m thankful for electricity, I’m thankful for propane to make coffee. I stoke the wood stove and add some logs I brought up from the night before, thank goodness, and then I start to write.
The snow is falling, the grandchildren get on the bus for school, there goes the snowplows just ahead of them, the river keeps flowing by, icy and cold. Time to press the send button and go shovel some snow!
