Clearwater Valley’s baseball field was muddy (as pictured) after rain in April 2015. Rams coach Josh Bradley had it in playable condition in time for the March 16 home opener that year. Last year, the Rams played their first March 14. In 2016, they opened with an exhibition against Potlatch on March 12. They’ve penciled the 2018 opener for this Friday, March 9.

The Clearwater Valley baseball boys are penciled in to lead off the local spring sports seasons at 4 p.m. March 9 against Cole Valley Christian at CVHS. The Grangeville boys are slated to play Cole Valley at 11 a.m. March 10, and after the Grangeville game, the Rams have scheduled a 2 p.m. date with that other “CV.”

Schedules across the county heat up quickly after that, but for spring teams, getting into action depends — as always — on the weather. (The spring sports schedules are subject to change; information current March 6 can be found on 10B.)

The Grangeville softball opener is slated March 12 against Culdesac and Prairie baseball set to start March 13 at Clearwater Valley. Prairie’s softball squad opens March 15 at Culdesac.

Four track and field teams — CV, Kamiah, Prairie and Salmon River — are set to open March 17 at Lapwai. Grangeville’s runners, jumpers and throwers have March 24 at Lewiston listed first.

Clearwater Valley’s tennis team starts March 19 at Orofino.

Kamiah won’t be fielding baseball or softball teams this spring.
