— “We know our community cares about our kids, and I hope they will come out and vote ‘yes’ for the levy,” said Mountain View School District 244 chair Mike Dominguez of Kooskia.

MVSD will ask patrons to support a $3,090,048 levy next Tuesday, March 13.

The cost per thousand of taxable market value for property owners will be $3.67, meaning a home valued at #100,000, with homeowner’s exemption, could expect to pay $372 for the year or $31 a month for the 2018-19 school year.

Dominguez said he is well aware using property taxes to pay for education is not the most efficient or fair way to go, but options are limited.

“What other choices do we have right now?” he asked. “We need to continue programs for our kids.”

Superintendent Marcus Scheibe agreed.

“It’s about an extra $5 a month from last year’s levy amount,” he said. “I have said it before – schools are an integral part of our communities and the fact is, we need to pass levies to maintain them and provide for our students.”

Polls are open Tuesday, March 13, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
