Yes on levy; add name to Medicaid petition

Letter to the Editor

  1. Go to the polls on March 13 and vote yes on MVSD 244 and Kamiah SD 304 levies. More than $1.5 million dollars a year in Secure Rural School District Funding is gone from our area schools’ annual budgets. There is no other way to fund this shortfall.

  2. Add your name to the expanded Medicaid petition. After you vote, look for volunteers carrying petitions to expand Medicaid to help the 78,000 hardworking Idahoans without health care. You will have the opportunity to add your name to put Medicaid expansion on the ballot in November, so that all Idahoans can vote on it. Volunteers will be outside, 100 feet away from the polling place, to collect your signatures in these Idaho County communities: Grangeville, Kamiah, Kooskia, and Stites.

  3. Cut your taxes. By adding your name to the Medicaid expansion petition, you would be helping to offset these school levies with annual property and state tax savings. Expanding Medicaid and taking advantage of available federal funds would cut the nearly $4 million in indigent care that is written off by area hospitals annually, by 50 percent. That is 50 percent less of our tax dollars and means a savings of nearly $2 million dollars.

This is a win win-win for us all. Securing our schools and providing our citizens with health care is not only the humanitarian thing to do, it is also the smart and fiscally responsible choice to make. Let’s do it!
