Yes on levy: Let’s not rely on govt. handouts

Letter to the Editor

“It takes a community…..”

Fellow community members, please take the time to vote yes for the Mountain View School District’s levy on March 13th. The expression, “it takes a village to raise a child” rings so very true. Regardless of whether or not you have kids in the school system, it takes our entire community to raise our children and continue providing the opportunities we have.

We are blessed to live and raise families in an area so rich in natural resources-the hunting, fishing, camping that we take for granted are some people’s dream vacations. Comparatively, however, our schools are struggling to even keep up with some of the basic maintenance that other places take for granted. Everyone with kids in the school system knows that we have fantastic and dedicated school staff, teachers and volunteers working to ensure that our kids and our community’s futures are bright, but we need your help! There is a wealth of information about the levy on the Mountain View School District’s website at, but the most important piece of information is how little the cost really amounts to. For the average property owner, it is an increase of several dollars per month. This is less than a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk or six-pack of your favorite beverage. Small prices to pay considering our value of our kids, community and future.

Let’s not rely on government handouts to continually scrape by. Instead, let us help ourselves, by setting an example and demonstrating to our kids, and each other, the real value of community and vote yes.
