— We have sprung ahead and have an hour more sunshine for the Clearwater Valley High School track season. Mike Smith, Jr., of Lowell, is the head coach for the 2018 season with Lara Smith as assistant coach. They have a good turnout of students, as well as some much needed sunshine. First meet coming soon.

The IDF&G has spent the last two cold months setting up the fish traps for their season. Marika, Dalton and Artie have worked in the cold, cold months of January and February ‘til the dark of night to get these traps set up, now it’s a matter of maintaining and the high water makes it a challenge.

Free Press / Marie Smith Miss Ella Marie Smith will be 14 on Sunday, March 18. She’s cleaning my kitchen here, but she’ll get the day off for her birthday party on Saturday.

Work on Highway 12 will start as early as April. It’s a big project, more than two years, not counting seal coat, and the workers have been making arrangements for lodging along the way. They start way up at Powell and by July will be working out of Lowell. They were here about 12 years ago and everyone survived, no nonsense hardworking group from Knife River Construction.

Get ready for the whitewater rafting season because it’s coming and the river rats are calling in for river levels and reservations already!
