KOOSKIA A preliminary hearing is this Friday, March 23, for a Cottonwood man, arrested last week following a high-speed pursuit incident.
Michael A. Matson, 26, is charged with eluding an officer and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies, along with misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia, reckless driving and driving without privileges.
Charges resulted from a Thursday, March 15, incident, which started with an 8:25 p.m. traffic stop of a 2008 Dodge Charger on Kooskia’s Main Street by Idaho County deputies Sam AuGello and Roberto Hernandez. According to an Idaho County Sheriff’s Office release, the vehicle momentarily pulled over, then rapidly accelerated, turned and fled south on State Highway 13.
The vehicle continued south in excess of 100 miles per hour traveling through Stites, onto Stites Grade Road then onto Battle Ridge Road, all at a high rate of speed. Near the top of Lower Battle Ridge Road, the vehicle stopped and the suspect fled up the hillside and laid down in an effort to hide, where he was subsequently taken into custody.
