Tires get us to places we have to go, and more importantly, destinations we want to go. And North Central Idaho has lots to go see.

Head down to the shore in a few weeks for the annual Salmon River Jet Boat Races.

Racing teams from the U.S. and the world return to Riggins every spring for the annual races, which this year is set for April 21-22.

Boats race along the Salmon River north of Riggins both days —Saturday and Sunday — between Island Bar and Lightning Creek. Prior to racing on Friday, spectators can view the boats doing river test runs, and then later at the Show and Shine Boat Display at Salmon Rapids Lodge. Also that day, events and activities are held throughout town.

Pullouts and parking areas are available along U.S. Highway 95 for easy viewing, including at the Time Zone Bridge just north of Riggins that provides spectacular rapids action.

Tip: Plan to get your spot early on race days as parking along U.S. 95 is limited, and thousands of spectators attend each year.

The race is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association with the support of Salmon River EMS and the City of Riggins.
