— Last week I had a brain freeze, the Ides of March set in and I didn’t beware, a big boulder on Highway 12 at milepost 116, a cougar sighting at Two Shadows, and early morning rapid fire coming from across the river – bapbapbapbap — a series of three times, very loud! Turkey hunters, I don’t know. Sounded really close.

News for this week: Easter Sunday coming up. Let there be sunshine instead of the snow we had this morning. April will be here too, and in Lowell Three Rivers Rafting will have their Lochsa and Selway River guides moving in for the whitewater season. First big trip May 5, Cinco trip for Ray Kimble’s birthday each year to kick off the season.

This week we are busy blowing up boats and dusting off equipment, getting ready for the rivers to rise.

This last week David Rauzi spent an afternoon in Lowell with his camera and notepad interviewing me (Marie Smith), innkeeper and ace reporter for an article in Ruralite magazine which will come out in May or June. He is a fun guy, great sense of humor, and I enjoyed the interview. Next time I’m going to do an article on his life as a newspaper editor!
