LEWISTON With a 135-2 throw in the discus last Thursday, May 3, Kamiah’s Kaleb Oatman was the only area athlete to place individually first overall at the annual Meet of Champions.
Oatman also fired the shot 42-8¼, which was good for fourth overall in the field.
Other top boys performances included the second place run by Grangeville’s medley relay of Jaize Norman, Aiden Anderson, Jacob Vanderwall and Ethan Pollan.
They finished the one-mile race in 3:52.27.
On the girls side, Grangeville assembled the day’s fastest 4x200 relay, with Naomi Connolley, Kim Kaschmitter, Allyona Williams and Hayden Hill finishing in 1:51.72, about two seconds ahead of a Prairie foursome.
Prairie’s medley relay of Sierra McWilliams, Jordyn Higgins, Theresa Wemhoff and Laney Uhlenkott ran second in that race in 1:53.92.
Individually, Grangeville’s Paige Lindsley placed second in triple jump (32-0½), Clearwater Valley’s Melanie Gianopulos placed third in the 1,600 (5:49.00), and Grangeville’s JaKaili Norman placed third in the 100 (13.52).
Next, state qualifiers are slated May 11-12 at Lapwai.
