The Silver Dollar Pizzeria and Pub in Stites is celebrating the completion of their outdoor covered patio with a grand opening on Friday, May 18, at 7 p.m. The Grant Webb Band will begin at 8 p.m., for dancing. They are a three-piece band described as southern rock and blues with country twang. You are welcome to come early for dinner. A mini-bar is available outside for beer and a few select drinks, so you don’t have to go inside at all if you don’t want to. I’ve enjoyed watching the transformation of the old outdoor space, a muddy patch with a chain link fence around it, to a nice paved patio with a high open-air roof. These last couple of weeks people have been out enjoying the space. They will have ice buckets with six beers for $13.
How’s your garden growing this spring? The Kooskia Farmers’ Market will kick off on Thursday afternoon June 7, continuing on Thursdays throughout the summer in the Kooskia City Park. Organizer Melissa Knapton (telephone 208-739-1602) is looking for people to have booths for the market, handmade or homegrown items. In addition to farm produce, honey, eggs, local meat, fresh flowers, quilts, photography, pottery, jewelry, bath and body products are welcomed. There will be no charge to have a booth, but you must have a signed agreement with the coordinator. No garage sale type items, the city does not allow it. Melissa is working on other activities for the market such as yoga, local music, kids’ activities, food trucks and outdoor classes. She’s hoping this will become a family-friendly community event.
The Kubs track coach Janna Privette remarked “We had a fabulous weekend of track and field at the 1A District Championships (in Lapwai) with three girls and eight boys qualifying for the state meet in Middleton next weekend, countless others set personal records and most importantly, everyone had fun!” Senior Lacey Kludt won both the shotput and discus with Kati Wilkins 4th in discus and Destiny Knight 4th in triple jump. Clearwater Valley is sending four athletes to state with distance runner Melanie Gianopulos qualifying in three events with a first, 2nd and 5th respectively in the 3200, 1600 and 800 meters. Martha Smith pole vaulted for 5th place while Will Willis ran 2nd in the 400 meters and Aiden Martinez 3rd in the pole vault. The Kub boys came in first in both the 4 X 100 and medley relays, and 2nd in the 4 X 400 relays. Kaleb Oatman won the discus and placed 3rd in shotput. In the 110 hurdles Luke Snyder and Caden Massey placed 2nd and 4th. Michael MacMenamin won the pole vault and ran for 2nd in the 1600 and 3rd in the 800 meters with Jace Sams only 0.5 second behind for 4th in the 800 meters. Proud of all these athletes for getting out there and working hard; good luck at state!
