District levies pass Tuesday night

UPDATE: Wednesday, May 16 – Unofficial results in the Tuesday, May 15, primary election show passage for both school district levies in Cottonwood and Riggins.

For Cottonwood Joint School District 242’s $325,000 supplemental levy, votes were 356 yes to 225 no; 61 percent approval rate.

For Salmon River Joint School District 243’s $525,000 supplemental levy, votes were 254 yes to 108 no; a 70 percent approval rate.

All election results are unofficial until canvassed by the Idaho County Commission.

District 7 Legislative races

Unofficial totals for District 7 legislative races show an incumbent sweep.

For District 7A Representative: incumbent Priscilla Giddings of White Bird received 3,125 (56.1 percent), Ryan A. Lawrence of Kendrick received 1,276 (22.9 percent), and Shannon McMillan of Silverton received 1,165 (20.9 percent).

  • Breaking down what candidates received in Idaho County of their overall totals, Giddings received 64 percent (2,004), Lawrence received 37 percent (469) and McMillan received 34 percent (392).

For District 7B Representative: Phil Hart of Kellogg received 2,253 (41.3 percent), and incumbent Paul Shepherd of Riggins received 3,197 (58.7 percent).

  • Breaking down what candidates received in Idaho County of their overall totals, Hart received 44 percent (987) and Shepherd received 55 percent (1,749).

District 7 includes Idaho, Clearwater, Shoshone and a portion of Bonner counties.

TUESDAY, 11 p.m., May 15 -- Passage was looking likely at press time, 11 p.m. Tuesday, for both school district levies in Cottonwood and Riggins in the May 15 primary elections.

Incomplete results showed Cottonwood Joint School District 242’s $325,000 supplemental levy, votes were 330 yes to 200 no. Absentee votes were still pending.

For Salmon River Joint School District 243’s $525,000 supplemental levy, incomplete votes were 213 yes to 91 no. Absentee votes were still pending.

District 7 Legislative races

Full results were unavailable as of press time for the four-county turnout – Idaho, Clearwater, Shoshone and a portion of Bonner – in District 7 legislative races. The Free Press will follow up in an upcoming issue.

With 22 of 28 precincts reporting, Idaho County results were as follows:

  • District 7A Representative: incumbent Priscilla Giddings of White Bird received 1,493, Ryan A. Lawrence of Kendrick received 373, and Shannon McMillan of Silverton received 309.
  • District 7B Representative: Phil Hart of Kellogg received 783, and incumbent Paul Shepherd of Riggins received 1,312.
