— On April 12, three Grangeville Elementary Middle School students accompanied college and career adviser Bobbie Kennedy, to “GREAT Day” (Getting Ready for Engineering and Technology) at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL).

Cheyanne Brown, Tate Johnson and Isaac Hill learned about STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. They engaged in hands-on learning about power relays, toured the manufacturing floor, watched a safety demonstration given by Avista Utilities and worked with a SEL Engineer to design a prototype for a “virtual backpack” app. They were then given the opportunity to present their idea to a group of SEL Engineers.

“GREAT Day” is an annual event, sponsored by SEL as part of their K-12 outreach program.
