In the high school atmosphere recently, it has appeared the biggest controversy has been the issue of gun control. This is because of mass school shootings that have occurred, and the fear and grief brought on the world by the losses that we have experienced.
But my question is, “What happened to the grief from losses of other innocent lives?”
Something that was brought to my attention while discussing this issue during my government class at the high school one day was the comparison between the number of losses from shootings and those from abortion. I noticed that 1.5 percent of the deaths that occur in the United States in one year are from gun-related incidents in all forms, totaling to about 38,000 deaths in one year.
However, when this number was compared to that of abortions, I was shocked to find that gun deaths were far behind abortion deaths.
An average of 920,000 medical and surgical abortions are performed in one year. That is 25 percent of the total 3,632,630 deaths from all causes in the United States. (This is insane!)
The issue of abortion has been a topic of controversy for quite some time, and it is devastating to know that it has become such a common thing that we push the issue aside altogether.
I am happy to be a part of a movement such as he Walk for Life to unbury a cause of dying and open eyes to the fatalities abortions are causing. Every life is precious, and not one single person should be denied the chance to live, for any reason.
