LOWELL / SYRINGA The Mighty Lochsa is over 9 feet this morning, cold and fast and raging, the spring thaw is coming off the mountains. Biggest water in several years, and sure isn’t over yet. I can sit on my front porch, and with my trusty telescope I can see the gauge on the bridge that spans the river and goes up the Selway. The age-old gauge doesn’t lie, and those rivers are high.
Boomtown, USA this past weekend. All the business in Lowell and Syringa are booming, restaurants (all 3), motels, cabins, and even a new opening of the store and camping at Lowell is nice and busy.
Next week we have rafters from Fairchild Air Force Base, as well as from the Future Farmers of America down in Southern Idaho and they’ve all been rafting up here for 25 plus years. A new group of brave river rats will be on the water this Saturday, from the Scouts of American, you’ll notice I didn’t say Boy Scouts!
Dave and Pat Shindel moved into their summer home in Lowell this past weekend, they had a nice dinner at River Dance Lodge restaurant in Syringa with Roseanne and Dave Graham and David Paddison from up on the Selway Road.
Life is good, sunshine this week, and school is finally out. I’ve gained 5 pounds, retired one week, guess I better slow down!
