Gianopulos places 35th at Inland Empire Challenge

Clearwater Valley-Kamiah runner Melanie Gianopulos was the highest-placing local at the annual Inland Empire Challenge cross-country race held last weekend in Lewiston.

She completed the varsity 5K in 20 minutes, 19 seconds — placing 35th among competition from as far away as Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene.

On the boys side, CV-K’s Tristan Dominguez finished the varsity race in 20:06, good for 100th place among 213 runners.

The Prairie girls took third in the 5K JV race, led by Ciara Chaffee’s time of 21:06.

CV-K is scheduled to run Oct. 11 at Troy, with districts to follow Oct. 18 in Lewiston.
