Having beaten the Lewiston JV girls by 40 during a November visit, Prairie made a much tougher game of its return from winter break, but nevertheless came away with a lopsided win last Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5.

The Prairie girls put together an 11-2 run after the opening tip-off, prompting a Bengal timeout with 5:11 left in the first quarter, after which the Bengals scored 12 consecutive points and closed out the first quarter with a 14-11 lead.

Prairie regained the lead with back-to-back layups by Alexis Hiler and Jordyn Higgins, with Higgins’ converting to a three-point play good for a 16-14 PHS lead. Lewiston’s Sydney McRoberts tied it at 19-19 with a couple of free throws midway through the second quarter, out of which Prairie took a 25-22 lead to halftime. Lewiston JV scored the first five points of the third quarter and held a 29-28 lead on another hoop by McRoberts.

Prairie tied it at 31-all on a hoop by Ciara Chaffee, and took control of the game with nine points that went unanswered as the Pirates defense tightened and the Bengals’ foul trouble increased. After Lewiston JV closed within five, 40-35, Prairie scored nine in a row to end the game.

For PHS, Higgins scored 17 points and Chaffee finished with 10. For the Lewiston JV, Sammi Grant scored 11.

On Monday, Jan. 7, Prairie beat the Clarkston JV 59-28.

Coming — Prairie is scheduled to host the Clearwater Valley girls at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. This would be the return to action for the CV girls, who last played Dec. 21 at Potlatch.
