Men’s retreat set for March 2, 3

A Regional Men’s Retreat is set for March 2 and 3, at the Grangeville Christian Church, 402 W.S. 1st Street in Grangeville. There will be a meeting Friday evening March 2, and meetings morning and afternoon Saturday March 3, with lunch served.

Chili cook-off, Sushi Night are both March 3

Lewis-Clark State College has two upcoming enrichment classes set. A Small Business Development Center Business Roundtable is scheduled for Friday, March 14, with Barbara Leachman. This will be held 1:30 to 4 p.m. for a cost of $35. A Monastery of St. Gertrude Tour in Cottonwood is set for Saturday, March 17, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Sister Carol Ann Wassmuth and includes lunch for $38.

Umpqua Donates to Kids Klub

Umpqua Bank recently donated $5,000 to Kids Klub, Inc., through its community reinvestment grant. The money will pay for an entire year of snacks for the program. Pictured here are (left) Umpqua representative Tammy Nail, handing the check to Kids Klub Executive Director Cindy Godfrey.

Varsity Blue Valentine And Birthday Wishes

Grangeville High School’s Varsity Blue Choir, under the direction of Ms. Merrill-Lee Rasmussen, performed about 40 singing Valentines on Feb. 14. Here, the group sings to Mr. Andrew Riener at the Grangeville Senior Citizens Center. Riener recently celebrated his 101st birthday and was treated to the song, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.” Riener is seen here thanking the group as (L-R) Jillian Hausladen, Anastasia Bearden and Colby Canaday look on.

Wrestling Crab Feed Fund-Raiser

The first Bulldog Wrestling Crab Feed, catered by Superior Events and Shiznits, drew a large crowd to the Grangeville Elks Feb. 17. It included live music by Vintage Youth and a talent show where (middle, photo courtesy Amy Farris) Grangeville Border Days Royalty Queen Micaela Farris and Princess Bella Klapprich received second place for their dance.

Bells of St. Gertrude’s continue to ring

With the exception of Good Friday and Holy Saturday (the two days before Easter Sunday), the bells of St. Gertrude’s ring out over the Camas Prairie every day of the year, as they have since the early 20th Century. While the chapel is on the National Register of Historic Places, the sound of the bells proves that this sacred building is still in use for the purpose it was intended when it was dedicated in 1924.

Grangeville Music Department ‘Music Time’ dinner, auction is March 10

Get ready to support the arts in Grangeville – it’s “Music Time.” The Grangeville bands in choirs, grades six through 12, will present the musical dinner and auction event Saturday, March 10, at Grangeville High School. Tickets are on sale through March 1 and are $20 per person or $35 per couple. Cost at the door is $25 per person. Students from Grangeville Elementary Middle School and the entire GHS music department will be performing for the evening fund-raiser.

The Grangeville Senior Citizens Center Dollar-A-Month- Club will meet the second Friday in March (March 9) to conduct business and elect new officers. This will take place during the noon lunch time at the center.

The free monthly community breakfast at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 8:30-10 a.m. Breakfasts are held every month on the last Wednesday of each month.

Cross Country Cowboy Fellowship is Feb. 24

Cross Country Cowboy Fellowship will be meeting Saturday, Feb. 24, 6 p.m., in the Porter’s fellowship barn at 43 Whitetail Drive just south of Grangeville. There will be a soup social for the potluck. Bring a favorite soup or side dish and bring a friend. Call 208-983-0112.
