Avista names new district manager for Grangeville

Avista has selected Matthew Casey as the new district manager for the Grangeville operating district where he will oversee all electric operations on behalf of Avista. “We are very excited to have Matthew join our team. His familiarity with the Grangeville area, strong work ethic and leadership skills will greatly benefit Avista and its customers,” said David Howell, Avista’s director of operations.

Beardin joins SHC as PT in Kooskia

Monte Beardin, DPT has joined Syringa Hospital and Clinic’s therapy services staff and will be regularly scheduled at the Kooskia Clinic Mondays through Thursdays. Beardin obtained his master in physical therapy in 2001 and his doctorate in 2015. He is also a certified manual physical therapist (CMPT). He lives in Orofino with his wife, Cindy, a photographer and craft designer, and their six children. He has spent the last 10 years practicing in Orofino.

Clearwater Valley News: Harpster program draws large crowd

Happy anniversary to me! It’s been a whole year since I started writing this column. It’s an honor to be a Free Press correspondent in the long tradition of historic icon Frances Zaunmiller-Salmon River and more recent “living legends”- Marie Smith- Lowell/Syringa and Jeannie Fitch- Riggins who have been correspondents for a long time. I’ve had fun going to events and new businesses in my column area- Harpster, Clearwater, Stites, Kooskia and Kamiah. I’ve met some great people along the way and learned some interesting things about the communities.

Lowell / Syringa News: Here’s your Christmas ‘to do’ list

If you want to have a magical holiday season, here’s a “to do” list: First clean, then decorate your whole house, including a big live tree! Outside lights and decorations are also important; some lighted reindeer would be special. Shop ‘til you drop, include everybody, don’t forget the trash man and the bus driver. Make some homemade gifts in your shop or kitchen. Wrap like a pro, red, green, gold and silver! Did you remember to hang the stockings and the Christmas Village? Don’t forget the cat!

Cottonwood News: Summit program set for Thursday

We went up to Cottonwood Butte to get our Christmas trees Sunday. It was beautiful weather and a fun day. There was not much snow up there yet. The Advent Penance Services are all at 7 each night. Thursday, Dec. 14, St. Anthony’s, Greencreek. Monday, Dec. 18, St. Mary’s, Cottonwood; Tuesday, Dec. 19, Sts. Peter & Paul, Grangeville; and Wednesday, Dec. 20, Holy Trinity, Nezperce.

White Bird News: Decorating contest is on; parade is Saturday

Where to start? The weather is cold…Christmas is upon us in two weeks…not much snow or warmth of the sun? All of the above and I hope there is a happy medium for all of you. Duane is now home enjoying his jammies and the comforts of his house. He will still have to do physical therapy but with the prayers, let’s hope he’s on the way to recovery. He welcomes visitors and phone calls.
