‘Adult completer scholarship’ bill clears Idaho House

Idaho lawmakers have approved the adult completer scholarship bill. SB 1279 cleared the Idaho House on a narrow 37-32 vote Monday, March 19, with much debate over the merits of its allocation of up to 20 percent of the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship’s funds — which lawmakers increased from $10 million to $13.5 million — for adults going back to finish their degrees. It previously cleared the Senate on a 25-10 vote.

Hands-on event next Wednesday to promote app development

The public is invited next week for hands-on drone and robot programming, while learning about the Inspire Idaho program and how to receive high tech work-skill training at little to no cost. Open to all ages, this free event will be Wednesday, March 28, at the Soltman Center (across from Syringa Hospital) in Grangeville at two times: 3 and 5 p.m.

National Agriculture Day Celebrates American Food and Fiber Production

March 20 is National Agriculture Day – a day designated each year by the Agriculture Council of America (ACA) to celebrate the accomplishments of agriculture. The Farm Service Agency (FSA) joins the council in thanking American agricultural producers, especially in Idaho, for their contributions to the nation’s outstanding quality of life.

Evelyn Ogden to celebrate 102nd birthday with open house

RESERVATION LINE ROAD — “I don’t have any secrets,” Evelyn Ogden shook her head. “I never in my life dreamed I would live this long.” Ogden will turn 102 years old Saturday, March 17. She was born in 1916 in Harrison, Idaho. “My grandparents ran a lodge there in Harrison,” she said March 8 from her home halfway between Cottonwood and Ferdinand. She lives next door to her nephew, Kimron Torgerson, and his wife, Daryl.

Women’s retreat set for March 17

Centennial Evangelical Free Church, at 408 N. College, will be hosting a mini seminar for women on Saturday, March 17. This will be held in two sessions: 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to noon. A light brunch will be served between the two sessions.
