GHS students certify in Microsoft programs

A variety of Grangeville High School students in the business and technology classes of Bruce Wassmuth have passed the Microsoft Office Specialist certification. Students learn Microsoft Office programs, including Word 2016, Excel 2016, Access 2016, and PowerPoint 2016, in business computers class. They then focus on specializing in one of the four programs. Once they become proficient in the program, they take a nationally recognized test to prove their knowledge of the software. If they pass, they are awarded with a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. After they certify in one area, they focus on another area. Currently, students are certifying in Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

It's Your Business: Blood draws go to SM clinic

Beginning Jan. 8, 2018, St. Mary’s Hospital & Cottonwood Clinic will be conducting all lab draws in the clinic instead of the hospital. If you are coming in to have blood drawn, go to the Cottonwood Clinic reception area instead of to the hospital admissions desk. Pre-employment screenings will still be conducted in the hospital. •

Syringa Hospital Foundation Gala (formerly known as Festival of Trees) is set for Saturday, Feb. 24, at The Gym Event Center in Grangeville, featuring music by The Hitmen. Then, Sts. Peter and Paul’s Chocolate Fantasy is set for March 17. Winter won’t be dull with all these upcoming activities.

Avista names new district manager for Grangeville

Avista has selected Matthew Casey as the new district manager for the Grangeville operating district where he will oversee all electric operations on behalf of Avista. “We are very excited to have Matthew join our team. Beardin joins SHC as PT in Kooskia

Monte Beardin, DPT has joined Syringa Hospital and Clinic’s therapy services staff and will be regularly scheduled at the Kooskia Clinic Mondays through Thursdays. Beardin obtained his master in physical therapy in 2001 and his doctorate in 2015. He is also a certified manual physical therapist (CMPT). He lives in Orofino with his wife, Cindy, a photographer and craft designer, and their six children. He has spent the last 10 years practicing in Orofino.
