Let white kids dress as Black Panther, for crying out loud

Oh, the days. Halloween night is the only time it’s universally accepted to beg strangers for handouts. And it’s a fun time for kids to play dress-up and be someone or something else for this exciting evening. Yes, and then adults put their social politics baggage into the mix and screw up yet another fun time.

District 244’s approach eases concerns with firearms policy

If there’s anything that’s impressed us on how serious Mountain View School District 244 is taking its firearm’s policy, it’s superintendent Mark Scheibe’s perspective following a recent safety and training course. “You really have to practice what you’ve trained for and be prepared. It’s not easy – and it shouldn’t be,” he emphasized, in a story in this week’s Idaho County Free Press. “People’s lives are on the line.”

Oregon voting reform proposal something Idaho should watch, consider

You rate hotels, restaurants, how your product or service was provided. So why not do the same in choosing those for elected office? Reform in some U.S. states is providing for improved candidate selection, such as rank choice voting where the top contestants in a multiple candidate race are determined by eliminating those with the fewest first-choice votes.

Protests dinged NFL’s business barely, if at all

National Football League player protests are back in the national news, thanks to the league’s new policy requiring players to stand and “show respect for the flag” if they are on the field during pregame flag ceremonies – and thanks to the President’s prompt criticism of that policy.
