Jack Weldon Meyer

September 21, 1923 - October 26, 2013

Jack Weldon Meyer, 90, of Fenn, Idaho, passed away on the morning of Oct. 26, 2013, at the local care center in Grangeville.
Jack was born to France and Melissa Meyer at the family farm on Sept. 21, 1923. His parents, his older sister, Evelyn Johnson, and his younger brother, Kenneth Meyer preceded him in death.
Jack grew up on the Camas Prairie near Fenn working on the family farm. He attended school in the one room schoolhouse in Fenn, and graduated from Grangeville High School. Jack served our country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1949 to 1954 which included a tour in Japan and California. He served as a commissioner of the Fenn Highway District, and was a life member of the Elks Lodge and the National Rifle Association.
Jack met Mary Lou Toennis and the two were joined in marriage on April 28, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood. Jack later acquired his grandfather’s original homestead which is where he and Mary Lou raised their family of three children. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Jack was a quiet man, thinking through each challenge, enjoying a good laugh, camping with close friends and family, hunting, and when asked would deliver sound advice to whomever asked or was in need of it. Some of his greatest enjoyments was driving tractors, four wheelers, and recreating at the family cabin. He had a friendly wave, handshake, or word for everyone he met.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his daughter, Jackie Simmons (Gary); two sons, Vern Meyer (Karen) and Pat Meyer (Mary); and seven wonderful grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Grangeville at the Blackmer Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sigler, the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, and the staff at the Grangeville Care Center for all their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elks Rehabilitation Center.
