Barbara Louise Brotnov, 86, died Aug. 2, 2014, at her Clearwater, Idaho, home. Barbara was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Grangeville, Idaho, to Oscar and Ethel (Henderson) Chandler. Barbara grew up in the Mount Idaho area. She attended and graduated from Stites High School in Stites, Idaho, where she played on the girls’ basketball team.
Although Jim Brotnov sat behind Barbara in school it wasn’t until Jim returned from the Navy they started seeing each other at dances held at Fenn, Idaho. They eloped and were later married after they were of age. They went on many pack trains up in the Selway Bitterroot Range.
Their first home was on the Southfork. That home was a wall tent and with addition of each of their four children they would upgrade their home, eventually having indoor plumbing and electricity on their ranch in Clearwater where they made their home in 1959.
Barbara had a strong marriage for 66 years, was active in Vacation Bible School, Good News Club, wrote for the Lewiston Morning Tribune, and made wedding cakes, but her main job was being domestic engineer and referee for her home and family. In Barbara’s life God was her number one thing. Barbara loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ. She would help her family any way possible and would lead her family and friends to the Lord.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ethel; brothers, Jimmy and Jack; and granddaughter, Misty Halbakken.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jim at their Clearwater home; her children, Mari Ann, Doug, Mike and Marty; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Roberts.
Funeral Services were Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Clearwater Baptist Church, Clearwater, Idaho. Pastor Bill Horn will officiated. Interment was at the Clearwater Cemetery followed by a covered dish dinner at the Clearwater Baptist Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Trenary Funeral Home of Kooskia, Idaho.
