Nicole Monique Frei-Jenkins’s blessed soul was set free Saturday, Dec. 6, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends as she passed on. She was 35.
Nicole was born June 8, 1980, to Cheryl and Rick Frei in Grangeville, Idaho, where she was raised. As a young girl she loved spending time with her family, being a big sissy to her cousin Ashley, playing with her kitties and coloring... a love that blossomed into her wonderful artistic talents. Nicole had a way of always seeing the beauty in the world around her. Nicole’s family expanded in 1985 when she and Cheryl joined the Zehners, adding more love and fun to the family. She attended grade school at Saints Peter and Paul and graduated from Grangeville High School in 1998, after mastering covert note passing to her “girls” and group sing-a-longs in the infamous Impala.
Nicole moved to Lewiston after high school and attended LCSC to earn her associates degree in graphic design, and expanded her group of “girls” in the process. Nicole was a friend like no other, she had a sweet compassionate way that drew others to her and her fiery spirit ensured fun was always to be had. Nicole showed off her creative talents as a floral designer for Fuchs Flowers in Clarkston, and also at Clearwater Paper in Lewiston. She dipped her toe in the nursing school pool for a short time, but decided the water was too chilly and went back to her creative roots. Along with nature, art and photography, Nicole had a passion for music. Music of all genres, as long as it set her soul on fire! If there was a concert near or far, she was at it.
Nicole’s heart was home when she met Jay Jenkins. She and Jay shared the love of being outdoors, camping, fishing and being adventurous together. They were married in true Las Vegas style March 10, 2013, and started their life together by hurling themselves off of tall buildings to seal the deal. They made their home in Clarkston surrounded by family, friends and fun.
Nicole’s dream of being a mother came true when she and Jay welcomed their son, Jace Patrick Jenkins, into this world on March 2, 2014. Jace stole his mommy’s heart the second she laid eyes on him and she would say about him “love is an understatement.” Jace and Jay kept Nicole on her toes and with a full heart, she truly had everything she ever wanted in this world.
Nicole is survived by her husband, Jay; and son, Jace Jenkins of Clarkston, Wash.; parents, Jon and Cheryl Zehner of Grangeville; sister, Angie and her husband, Justin Vandenbark and their girls, Hailey and Brooke of Colfax, Wash.; and brother, Jon (JP) Zehner and his children, Heather, Dominik, Mitchel and Lexie of Grangeville; grandparents, John and Jeanette Vrieling and Loretta Zehner of Grangeville; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is also survived by Jay’s children, Jaron Jenkins and Callie Jenkins, both of Spokane and her mother-in-law, Vicki Bolen of Clarkston.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rick Frei; and her grandparents, Al and Caroline Frei.
Nicole’s presence with us will be greatly missed, but her untamed spirit and vibrant smile will be remembered forever by family and friends who cherished her. Her service was held Dec. 12, at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville. Services were under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
Condolences to the family can be sent to Blackmerfuneralhome.com.
