Maryjoria Idaho Martin, 99, passed away on July 10, 2015, in Spokane, Wash. She was born on the Camas Prairie near Grangeville, Idaho, on Aug. 6, 1915, to Alice and Owen Hazelbaker. She was the youngest of six siblings, all brothers: Harry, James, Elmer, Thomas and John. Mary was a Spokane resident for the past 65 years. An animal lover, raising show chickens, goats, geese, rabbits and even known to children in Trentwood as the “Bird Lady,” having rescued and raised a pet robin and starling. She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. She was loved and appreciated by many friends and relatives and will be sorely missed. Mary was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles Auxiliary.
“Aunty,” as she was affectionately known by many, is survived by two nephews, Burton and family, and Robert, as well as numerous grandnephews and grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland W. Martin, in 1997. A funeral service will be held today, Wednesday, July 15, at noon at Heritage Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Terrace at 1 p.m.
