Eleanor Turney, 52, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on March 13, 2015. Ellie had a short, but valiant fight with cancer, surrounded by a great many loved ones, but especially her loving husband, Bob, and daughter, Kelly.
Ellie was born in Yakima, Wash., on Aug. 8, 1962. She grew up in central California and moved to Bridgeport in the Sierra Nevada Mountains as a young woman. There, in 1984 she met her beloved husband, Bob. They were married on Sept. 29, 1985, in an outdoor ceremony at Twin Lakes, Calif. Bob and Ellie first moved to Idaho in 1993. They left in 1994 to serve in Welcome Home Orphanage on the Baja Peninsula, where Ellie was mom to dozens of motherless children from 1994 to 1999. While there, after 10 years of marriage, she was blessed with a wonderful daughter of her own, Kelly, born on Oct. 25, 1995.
In 1999 Ellie and her family moved back to Idaho and lived on the Salmon River for the remainder of her life. Ellie loved to garden and enjoyed the river. She was active in church, teaching and volunteering. Ellie was a devoted mother and supported her daughter, Kelly, with 4-H, Youth Theater, and many other activities. She shared a deep bond with her husband, Bob, and their marriage brought joy both to them and to those who knew them. Ellie’s home and heart were a haven to all who were blessed to know her. She left this life in the sure hope of heaven, having loved her Savior Jesus Christ to the end.
Ellie is survived by her husband, Bob Turney; daughter, Kelly Turney; mother and step-father, Ruth and Robert Johnson; brothers, John Foley, Tracey Johnson and Bobby Johnson; and sisters, Roxanna Foley and Loretta Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, please send gifts in her memory to Syringa Hospice at 607 West Main Street, Grangeville ID 83530. A memorial service will be held in Ellie’s honor at the Grangeville Christian Reformed Church at 521 N. Junction St. on Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m.
