Virginia Wilson (Gregg) Volin, 72, was born Aug. 31, 1942, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Woodrow and S. Elizabeth (O’Neill) Wilson and passed away April 9, 2015, in Renton, Wash., surrounded by loved ones.
Virginia graduated from Clearwater Valley High School in Kooskia, Idaho, class of 1961. She married Marvin L. Gregg later that same year, they have four children. She had a second marriage to Richard Volin, they have one daughter. Both marriages ended in divorce.
Virginia worked as a private nanny for many years in the Seattle area, and was retired. Previously she worked at Valley Medical Center Hospital, Renton, Wash.
She was happily busy in retirement with her children and grandchildren. Mom loved each of us unconditionally and deeply, but she was especially close to grandsons, Trenton Bushnell and Leland Roney; and her great-granddaughter, Jazzie Gregg. They were her everything; she felt blessed to have them in her daily life. Virginia never knew a stranger, her door was always open, food on her table and a space to sleep for anyone in need. Virginia loved all animals, but had an extra fondness for dogs. She loved to walk them rain or shine, they didn’t even have to be her dogs. She said, “Walking dogs will keep you young and the dogs happy.” She loved to travel, especially on the back of a Goldwing bike. She was a perfectionist with her home and yard (yours too, if you needed it), we all know that she could pass any military inspection with her bed making. She taught us the importance of education, compassion and cleanliness. Mom worked very hard her entire life and by example she instilled a good work ethic in each of us. Virginia loved a good joke, fun pranks, happy songs, and a snappy dance beat. In our hearts and memories Mom will always be no-bake cookies and fudge brownies, Saturday night dance parties in the living room, and her home filled with kids. Virginia was more than a mom; she was a good friend, wonderful sister and loving grandmother.
She is survived by daughters, Angela (Ross) Howard, Pamela (Lowell) Scholtes, Amanda Volin; and one son, Marvin D. Gregg; grandsons, Justin Dodd, Holden Howard, Trenton Bushnell and Leland Roney; granddaughters, Cheryl Gregg, Emily Smith, Sadie Gregg, Holly Allen, Sabrina Cavagnaro, Cassie Peterson; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie (Geraldine) Wilson and Rolley Wilson; sister, Doris Oswold; and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Wilson; many nieces, nephews, numerous friends; and her beloved “nanny” families that she remained a special part of until the good Lord called her home.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Darla L. Gregg; granddaughter, Vanessa Cavagnaro; three brothers, George, Pat and Acey; and her sister, Christine Wilson.
There is a celebration of life for Virginia and potluck Sunday, May 31, at 1 p.m. in Kooskia, Idaho, city hall. Bring a dish of some sort, your stories and any photos of Virginia you may have to share.
