Merwin “Sonny” Craig Harding

Grangeville, Idaho

July 15, 1927 - September 22, 2015

Merwin Craig (Sonny) Harding, 88, left this life to go to a place where with his cap on crooked and a smile on his face he could ride his horse, drive his tractor and combine, and continue to be the farmer he was all of his life.
Sonny passed away Sept. 22, 2015, at Grangeville Health and Rehab.
Sonny was born to Merwin and Genevieve Harding July 15, 1927, five miles out of Nezperce at the Poteet Place.
Sonny graduated from Nezperce High School in 1946 and attended college for a time. He resided in Nezperce his entire life. He was a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Buell Bartlett in Lewis County for a number of years.
Sonny married Martha Wilkens April 8, 1949. They had four children and were later divorced. Sonny and Beverley Giles were married Jan. 17, 1987.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Beverley at their home in Nezperce; his four children and five stepchildren, son, Perry Harding of Bend, Ore., Chis Stair (Don) of Eugene, Ore., Sally Kelly (Jim) of Corvallis, Ore., and Candy Harding of Walla Walla, Wash., Kurtis Braun and Barbara King (Jim) of Nezperce, Idaho, Kim Braun and Teresa Cash (Kevin) of Lewiston, Idaho, and Jennifer Huntley (Lee) of Grangeville, Idaho; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; his four sisters, Dona Colley of Clarkston, Wash., Phyllis Harding of Chapel Hill, N.C., Ann Smith of Woodland, Calif., and Mary Blanton of Moscow, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sonny was a 50-plus year member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and also a member of Calam Shrine and Scottish Rite.
Sonny’s wishes were to have a graveside service after the farming season was over. There will be a notice of the date and time later.
