Grangeville, Idaho

unknown - unknown

Delores Genevieve Heimgartner, 93, died June 28, 2016, at Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grangeville, Idaho. Delores will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Delores was born on May 16, 1923, at Burley, Idaho, to Chancellor and Elizabeth (Woodall) Gummow. She was the oldest of nine children. She graduated from Burley High School in 1941 and attended Idaho State College in Pocatello, Idaho. She moved to San Diego, Calif., to become a “Rosie the Riveter” in the aircraft factories working on B-12 bombers. She met Vinal E. Straw and they were married on Sept. 20, 1943. They had a daughter in August 1944, Lyndia Ann, who died a few months later. In 1947 after the war, they moved to the farm in Clearwater, Idaho, where they made their life with their three children, Tim, David, and Jennie. Vinal died in 1959 and Delores and their children remained on the family farm.
She married Leslie Heimgartner on June 8, 1968, and moved to Juliaetta, Idaho. They had 25 wonderful years together until Leslie’s death in 1993. Delores then moved back to Clearwater to be closer to family, until health issues caused her to move first to Haven of Rest in Kamiah, Idaho and then to Grangeville Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Delores was very active in her communities; serving as a member of LDS Church, PTA, 4-H Leader, Granges at Clearwater & Juliaetta, Women in Agriculture and quilting club. She loved being with family, reading, painting, sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, gardening, listening to music, watching TV and doing word searches.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chancellor and Elizabeth; her husbands, Vinal and Leslie; daughter, Lyndia Ann Straw; her brother, Vern; her sister, Edith, stepchildren, Bob and Elaine and a great grandchild.
She is survived by her children, Tim (Bernadette) Straw and David (Donna) Straw both of Clearwater, Idaho; Jennie (Larry) Lyons of Syringa, Idaho, and stepdaughter, Marie Straw of Mountain Home, Idaho; and her six remaining siblings. Delores was grandmother to her and Leslie’s 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known to many nieces, nephews, and extended family as “Auntie Delores.”
Memorial contributions in Delores’ name may be made to the charity of choice.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, at Trenary Funeral Home Chapel in Kooskia, Idaho. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Trenary Funeral Home Chapel in Kooskia, Idaho. Dedication of grave will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. A dinner will be provided for family and friends at the LDS Church dining hall, U.S. Highway 12, Kamiah, Idaho.
