John “Jack” Lee Bailey, 87, of White Bird, Idaho, was born in Santa Cruz, California on Dec. 28, 1929. He died on March 30, 2017, in Grangeville, Idaho. He was the first born to John and Madeline Bailey. He has two younger sisters, Laurie L. Wood and JoAnn Compton.
The Bailey’s grew up in Paradise, Calif. It was here he met Dorothy Upton. The two married on Jan. 31, 1947, and had three children: John Lee Bailey III, Gay Allison Stuck (Randy), and Laurie Lee Eckert (Ed).
Jack spent the first half of his life building his business JL Bailey & Son Construction in Paradise. In 1985, he “retired” to Idaho where he realized his dream of running a cattle ranch. Banner Ridge Ranch was Jack’s pride and joy and he spent his life appreciating it: riding his horse, taking care of his cows, flying his airplane, or just sharing his love of the ranch with his grandchildren.
Jack had four grandchildren: Lacy John of Missouri, Alisa Harris of Grangeville, Stephanie Fischer of Florida, and Zachary Fischer of California. He also had great-grandchildren: Jon, Gwen, Vince, Dymitri, Braelyn, Michele, Emily and Kevin.
Cremation has taken place. A public service is planned at a late date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville. Send condolences to the family to Blackmerfuneralhome.com.
