Donald “Don” S. Alm, 86, of Grangeville, Idaho, died Friday, June 9, 2017, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho. He was born to Selmer “Sam” and Marie Alm on Feb. 15, 1931, in Clarkston, Wash.
During his early years he lived in Golden, Idaho. At age 9, the family moved to the Camas Prairie near the Denver, Idaho area. Due to health issues Don only completed school until the 8th grade. For the next 44 years, he spent his life farming on the Camas Prairie and building his family.
On Dec. 6, 1959, he married Janice Hoiland. Together they had three children: Lynda, David and Terri. Following that, he began his career as a miner. In 1979, Effie joined the Alm family.
Throughout his life Don loved to work with equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and lawn mowers. He loved to hunt and enjoyed his extra time at his cabin in Orogrande, Idaho. He loved to fly his plane. Don’s first car was his plane. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.
Don is survived by his wife, Janice, of 57 years. Children: Effie (Clint), Lynda (Alan) Fox, David Alm, and Terri King; Brother, Jerry (Betty) Alm, 10 grandchildren: Joe, Mike, Arron, William, Gerri Leigh, Danny, Amber, Karra, Kristen and Donald; 9 great grandchildren: Mikey, Nathan, Ayden, Adrianna, Jaleigh, Tanner, Kassidy, Zoey and Daxton; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A viewing will be held Friday, June 16, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grangeville. Burial will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery. Following burial there will be a luncheon back at the parish hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville.
