Maxine Anne Pell Kelley, was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Grangeville, Idaho, to Harold and Maxine Arnold Pell. She died on Nov. 4, 2017, in Grangeville.

Maxine attended school in Grangeville and the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, where she attained teaching certification in 1954. It was there that she met her husband of 42 years, Ted Kelley. She taught elementary school in Kamiah, Idaho and Grangeville for several years until her sons, Steve and Mark, were born, then she taught piano lessons at home. She worked at several businesses in Grangeville and was an accomplished pianist and accompanist. She returned to LCSC and received a BA in General Studies in 1983. Maxine and her husband, Ted, were active in the Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars, traveling to conventions around the U.S. until his death in 1997. Maxine loved animals and adopted many stray cats and dogs over the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Kelley; parents, Harold and Maxine Arnold Pell; sister, Margaret; and brother, David. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Adina), of Lewiston, Idaho and Mark (Debbie), of Grangeville; five grandchildren - Eric and Brandon Kelley, of Lewiston, Alia Kelley, of Boise, Idaho, Andrew “Drew” Kelley, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Rachel Kelley, of Grangeville; and two great granddaughters, Lilly and Harper, of Lewiston. She is survived by sister, Pat (Bryan) Cash, of Grangeville; nephew, Brad (Ja’nice) Cash, of Grangeville; nieces, Jinny Cash, of Grangeville and Marianne (Matt) Rockwell, of Vale, Ore.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Grangeville Gospel Tabernacle Church. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Send condolences to the family to
