Jacqueline Mary Elizabeth (Schmidt) Lacey
February 29, 1948 - August 27, 2017
A tiny miracle, Jacqueline Mary Elizabeth Schmidt, arrived earlier than expected to her loving parents Mary (Sprute) and Louis Schmidt on Feb. 29, 1948. Weighing in at a mere 3 pounds, she would never fail to amaze us with her beauty, grace, class, gentle kindness and spirit of giving. She shared an idyllic childhood with her four adored sisters on the family’s dairy farm in Cottonwood, Idaho. She graduated from St. Gertrude’s Academy and attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City. On a warm summer evening at a Cottonwood dance, the dashing Roy Lacey swept her off her feet. They married and settled on a ranch in Weippe, Idaho, where they raised their family.
As a young bride, Jackie began to create the home that she would fill with song, love and laughter. Both deeply compassionate and ferociously protective, she was the quintessential mother for her five children. Her smile radiated love, and her arms were always open to offer comfort. Her hugs melted away pain and soothed an aching heart. Incredibly unassuming and selfless, she was a living example of one of her favorite hymns, the Prayer of St. Francis. She jumped to comfort others, usually with a plate of her delectable butterhorns or food lovingly preserved from her garden. There were no strangers in her world. She welcomed everyone with her warm smile, melodious laughter and endearing sense of humor. Dedicated to being a positive and uplifting force in this world, Jackie’s words were always encouraging and supportive; a disparaging comment never escaped her lips. In short, if Jackie was present, life was brighter. Those of us fortunate enough to know and love her will deeply miss her.
When faced with adversity, Jackie bravely met her challenges and embraced God’s will, always finding a reason to celebrate His presence in her life. Her faith in our heavenly Father never wavered. On Sunday Aug. 27, 2017, she slipped from her earthy bonds with her loving husband Roy at her side, praying the rosary. In heaven, Jackie is reunited with her beloved parents, Louis and Mary Schmidt; her baby brother, Timmy; and her precious grandson, Kelly.
Jackie’s spirit lives on in her husband, Roy; their five children, Sonya (Chris) Cook, Annette (Michael) Burns, Patrick, Michelle and Porter (Kelly); her grandchildren, Cameron, Annette, Jared, Christopher, Dustyn, Jack, Kidd, Jade, Palin, Lindsay and Declan; and her sisters, Virginia (Bill) Crea, Patricia (David) Fealko, Janice (Lynn) Gardner and Joyce (Mark) Woods; her numerous nieces and nephews; and her cherished friends and family.
The funeral will be held Sept. 22, 2017, rosary at 10 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Lewiston, Idaho.
