Shirley Marie (Marshall) Cox, 74, of Grangeville, died at her family home Tuesday, July 24, 2018, around 8:00 a.m. after being ill for some time. Shirley was born April 2, 1944 in Salmon, Idaho to Mr. and Mrs. Elza Marshall. She lived in Salmon and Mullan, Idaho until 1957 when her family moved to Harpster and later Clearwater, Idaho. She graduated from CVHS in 1962 as Salutatorian. After graduation she went to work for First Security Bank in Grangeville as the bookkeeper. Working through name changes, merges, etc., she became head lady. She retired for the third and final time after 34 years.
Shirley met the love of her life, Darrel Cox, in the seventh grade. They dated all through high school and were married May 9, 1964. They had one son, Alan. Alan had Muscular Dystrophy and died in 1983. Shirley and Darrel transported cars all over the contiguous 48 states and later visited Alaska and Hawaii. She also collected bags of sand from all the oceans bordering the United States. She was very fond of her cats. Many thanks to Donna Hawk for her loving and faithful care during her illness.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, son, and two brothers, Jim and Johnny.
She is survived by her husband, Darrel, sister Margie, brother Ray, and many numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She will be sadly missed by all, yet we are thankful because we know she is with our God.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grangeville Christian Church. Interment will follow at Prairie View Cemetery.
